Built by Telecommunications Professionals
PenguinData started as one operator's frustration with software that couldn't keep up — two decades later, that same standard still runs every module we ship.
From Running Crews to Building the Platform
Before PenguinData existed, our founder was running a labor-contracting company in the broadband and telecom industry — at its peak, more than 650 employees and 150-plus subcontracted vendors, all needing to be scheduled, dispatched, tracked, and paid correctly, every single day.
The software available to run that business simply wasn't built for it. Spreadsheets didn't talk to each other. Off-the-shelf platforms handled one piece of the puzzle and ignored the rest, leaving dispatch, payroll, and HR to reconcile by hand. So in 2004, he did what operators who can't find the right tool eventually do — he built one.
That tool became PenguinData. Because it was built by someone who'd lived the problem from the field up, it was never designed as generic software retrofitted for broadband and telecom — it was designed for the industry from the first line of code, and it has stayed that way for more than 20 years.
That range is still exactly who we build for. Some of our clients are running 10 or 20 employees today and building their first real system of record; plenty of others started right there and have grown into operations with several hundred without ever having to switch platforms. And we support some of the largest broadband, telecom, and construction employers in the country — the platform simply scales alongside you, with no ceiling on how many employees it can handle.
650+ employees managed directly
Before PenguinData, in the field, in broadband and telecom
150+ subcontracted vendors
Coordinated alongside W2 crews, with no unified system
Zero off-the-shelf software fit
So we wrote our own, and never stopped
“Our mission is to give our clients superpowers.”
That means handing operations leaders visibility they've never had, giving HR teams hours back every week, and giving executives numbers they can actually trust — without hiring an army of analysts to get there.
What We Won't Compromise On
Three things have stayed constant since 2004, no matter how much the product has grown.
Integrity
We tell clients the truth about what the platform can and can't do yet. No overselling a module to close a deal, no burying limitations in fine print.
In-House Development
Every module is built by our own engineering team — no outsourced code, no third-party black boxes. When you call about a feature, you're talking to the people who built it.
Data as a Sacred Trust
Your employee records, payroll data, and field operations data are treated as a sacred trust, not an asset to monetize. A dedicated security team monitors it around the clock, every day of the year.
